by Administrator | July 28, 2017 | Get to Know Our Staff

fullsizerenderMeet Ms. April, the lead early preschool teacher at our Childtime location in Whiteland, IN! She has been working at Childtime for 10 years and grew up wanting to be a teacher. We’re so glad she’s a part of our team, so read our Q&A to learn more about this talented staff member!

How is this career rewarding for you?

I’ve watched a lot of kids go from infants to go kindergarten, and sometimes they stay until they’re 13 years old, and it’s great to see how smart they are and how far they’ve come. And when students finally get something, I’m proud of myself.

Can you share some of the activities you do throughout your day in early preschool?

We do centers in the morning during drop off. Then we switch to circle time. They have morning small group time, large group time, and in between those activities they have their own centers and they get to choose what they want to do. I’m helping them obviously at the same time.

What has been your favorite accomplishment since you’ve been at Childtime?

I feel like it’s made me a better person. I was young when I started here, and now I have these little lives in my hands. They made me feel important.

How is your relationship with the parents at your school?

I communicate absolutely everything with them and I use our mobile app a lot. I like to be 100% honest. I have a very good relationship with almost all the parents of kids I taught.

What’s one of your favorite activities to do during the year?

When we do our Fall Festival. It’s this huge party and usually we do it on a Friday night around Halloween. All the kids get to get dressed up. It’s like a Trunk or Treat. We make such a big deal about it! I love to do that every year. That’s definitely the favorite thing I’ve done in my time here.

If your students could describe you in one word, what would it be?

Loud! And they say I’m hyper. I’m rambunctious.

You need that to work with little ones!

Yeah, it takes a special person!

Why have you decided to stay at Childtime for the past decade?

My kids. I wouldn’t change that for the world. I don’t want to work with adults all day every day. Kids keep me young! I’ve been pushed to be in management, but I don’t want to be in management. I don’t want to be in charge of people. I want to be a teacher; I want to be with my kids. It’s what I enjoy doing. It’s not the money, it’s not any of that. I just want to be happy in what I do. To these kids, I’m important.
