Twos Classroom

In this classroom, an energetic environment helps give these mobile 2-year-olds a foundation for later learning. Teachers provide guided care, while little ones enjoy five classroom areas for exploration and discovery.

Movement & Music Center

Dance, jump, sway, and swing! Children develop the ability to coordinate and combine large muscle movements.

Block & Math Center

Explore shape, size, texture, and number through sorting and matching, creative structures, and making ramps.

Art & Science Center

Explore the world! Twos participate in sensory explorations, simple science investigations, and creative expression.

Pretend Center

Dramatic play helps develop children’s critical-thinking skills, as well as their expressive and receptive vocabulary.

Language & Literacy Center

Drawing pictures, “writing” by making letter-like scribbles, re-telling stories by acting them out with their bodies and with puppets to develop more complex language and literacy skills.

Curriculum & Milestones

Milestone development in this program for 2-year-olds continues to be guided by our Learn from the Start™ curriculum, but the learning experiences are designed to meet the specific needs of this very mobile age group. Our focus is on achievement in five developmental areas.

Approaches to Learning

Cognitive Development

Building an understanding of the world around them, while they practice thinking critically and creatively.

Milestone: Points to pictures that represent feelings and names the emotions.

Desired Outcome: Children develop the ability to recognize, understand, and communicate different emotions.

Language Development

Effective communication abilities are developing as these 2-year-olds use sounds, expressions, body language, and eventually, oral and written language while responding to and understanding others.

Physical Development

These 2-year-olds practice coordinating and controlling large and small muscle movements, while they build an understanding of health and safety concepts.
