Teacher Spotlight: Meet Carrie Tolentino

At Childtime of Monroe in Ohio, Carrie Tolentino is a shining example of what it means to lead with heart, passion, and purpose in the classroom. As a dedicated teacher, she has made a lasting impact, not only on the children she teaches each day but also on her colleagues and the entire school community.

Carrie’s journey into early childhood education is deeply personal and inspiring. When her son was diagnosed with Tracheobronchomalacia (TBM) as an infant, she found herself navigating unfamiliar territory. That challenge opened a new door and sparked a passion for child development and care. Entering the field in 2021, she quickly discovered a calling, one rooted in compassion, curiosity, and a love for watching children grow and thrive.

Being named a 2025 Teacher of the Year Finalist is more than just a title for her; it’s a platform to advocate for children, share meaningful teaching philosophies, and make a lasting difference in the field of early childhood education. Her work is driven by the belief that every interaction is a chance to build trust and show each child that they are supported, loved, and capable.

In her classroom, the learning extends far beyond the basics. Whether singing songs, encouraging fine motor skills, or guiding early writing and literacy development, she focuses on creating joyful, uplifting experiences that children will remember. Her goal is for each child to leave her classroom not only stronger academically, but also a more confident and connected version of themselves with memories of a classroom filled with warmth and support.

Her favorite part about teaching? Creating a nurturing environment where children can prepare for kindergarten success in every area: math, science, language, and social-emotional development. She prioritizes designing purposeful routines that promote learning and building relationships that inspire a lifelong love for school.

Looking ahead, she is eager to embrace continuing professional growth. Her next goals include earning her Child Development Associate® (CDA) Credential and stepping into a Team Lead role, where she hopes to inspire and support future educators while continuing to deliver high-quality education to the children in her care.

To new and aspiring teachers, she shares some meaningful advice: “Teaching is an incredibly fulfilling profession that allows you to make a real difference. By bringing music and play into your classroom, you can nurture young minds and create a joyful space for learning that lasts a lifetime.”

Join us in congratulating this outstanding educator on being named a 2025 Teacher of the Year Finalist. Carrie's dedication, passion, and love for your students is felt throughout her entire school. We are so proud to celebrate her and the impact she’s making at Childtime and beyond!
